Alfred State partners with Restaurant Technologies for a pioneering project to revolutionize sustainable dining practices.

Alfred State has started a ground-breaking project to transform its approach to sustainable dining practices in collaboration with Restaurant Technologies. Under this creative partnership, which is led by Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES), three of Alfred State's food establishments will implement a cooking oil recycling program.


In Action: Sustainable Solutions


The collaboration with Restaurant Technologies marks a significant turn in the direction of environmentally friendly waste management techniques for campus eating facilities. The program uses state-of-the-art technology to simplify the process of recycling spent cooking oil and purchasing new cooking oil, which removes the need for two trucks on campus.


Effect on Environment


Prior to implementing this cutting-edge equipment, each of the three restaurants used 50 bottles of oil on average each month. Alfred State hopes the new system will have a significant positive impact on the environment. Notably, it is anticipated that the program will reduce the monthly usage of about 150 single-use plastic jugs. Additionally, the program will result in a startling 69 cubic feet less landfill space being used. Most notably, the institution will further reduce its environmental impact by recycling an estimated 2,707 pounds of waste oil annually.


Transition to Sustainable Resources


The conversion of spent oil into useful resources is essential to the cooking oil recycling program's effectiveness. Recycled cooking oil can be transformed into biodiesel or renewable fuel using cutting-edge methods, reducing the need for traditional fossil fuels. Furthermore, the refined oil can be used to make a variety of consumer products, such as toothpaste and cosmetics, highlighting the adaptability and sustainability of the recycling procedure.
